FIELD NOTES 1943 TRIO
The 1943 Trio of Notebooks is a special edition set of three notebooks inspired by the books published by the U.S. Armed Forces.
Created in 1943 to entertain troops on the front lines, these books were distinguished by their horizontal format and brightly colored covers. The 1943 Trio carries on this legacy, offering unique versatility: use your notebooks vertically like a classic notebook, ideal for lists or linear notes, or horizontally for sketching, note-taking, or panoramic drawings. While their closed format remains true to that of the Field Notes Memobooks, this edition innovates with a two-staple binding on the short side, a first for the brand. Each notebook features a cover in primary colors—red, blue, or yellow—and offers a grid interior (4.7 x 4.7 mm) for precise writing. Choose the orientation that suits your needs! Made in the USA.
Description
FIELD NOTES 1943 TRIO
Field Notes – Limited Edition TRIO 1943: A Tribute to American Publishing History
Field Notes has always drawn inspiration from the most significant chapters in the history of printing, design, and publishing in the United States. With the “TRIO 1943” edition, we delve into an exceptional chapter: the collaboration between the U.S. government and the book industry during World War II.
In 1943, the “Armed Forces Publishing Company” was born, a bold initiative to provide soldiers deployed on the front lines with books to entertain and inspire them. More than 120 million books, a collection of 1,200 titles, were printed and distributed to the troops. These books were distinguished by their landscape format and covers in vibrant primary colors, a legacy that Field Notes® wanted to celebrate with this edition.
Unprecedented Versatility: The Choice of Orientation Is Yours
The TRIO 1943 edition embodies the spirit of the Armed Forces Editions by offering three "dual-purpose" notebooks designed to adapt to your needs. While the closed format remains true to that of the Field Notes® Memobooks (14 x 9 cm), these notebooks feature an innovative double-staple binding on the short side, a first for the brand.
This unique feature allows for both horizontal and vertical use:
- In vertical format, the notebook functions like a classic notebook, ideal for lists or linear notes.
- In horizontal format, it transforms into a panoramic format, perfect for sketches or extended note-taking.
Whether you want to jot down ideas, outline a project, or capture a scene, this edition adapts to all your needs.
A Design True to History
Each set of three notebooks features vibrant red, yellow, and blue covers, printed on 12 pt. Westrock Tango coated paper for a sturdy and elegant finish. The interior is printed on 60 lb. Domtar Cougar "Natural" paper, with a 4.7 x 4.7 mm (3/16 inch) grid for precise writing.
The notebooks are meticulously crafted in the USA using traditional printing techniques:
- Four-color process printing with Superior "1943 Magazine Press Primaries" soy-based inks.
- Saddle-stitched binding on a Muller Martini stapler, a tribute to the pioneers of stapling. - Rounded corners with a precision of 9.5 mm (3/8").
A Limited Edition Collector's Item
